Welcome to MLP | Boston!

The Medical-Legal Partnership | Boston allies health care providers with lawyers to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable populations. Combining the strengths of law and medicine, MLP | Boston ensures that patients’ basic needs – for housing, food, education, health care and personal and family stability – are met.

Specifically, MLP | Boston’s staff and consultants (including doctors, lawyers and paralegals) have developed 3 core competencies:

1. The training of medical providers so that they may recognize, screen for, and consult with MLP | Boston’s legal staff regarding the social determinants of their patients’ health.
2. The delivery of legal services to low-income patients at BMC and its six affiliated community health centers.
3. Systemic advocacy projects that engage health care providers in the policy process as it affects the patient population.

MLP | Boston is also the Founding Site of a nationwide network that now numbers over 80. As such, MLP | Boston serves as an innovator in MLP - leading the way in original pro bono ventures (such as adopted health centers) and in exploring burgeoning partnerships with new hospital departments.
