Private Bar
In 2001, Mintz Levin became the first firm to represent Boston Medical Center patient-families in an array of civil legal contexts. Since then, fourteen other law firms have joined MLP | Boston's pro bono partner network, which was formally launched by the Boston Bar Association in 2003 (and was known until 2008 as the Healthy Kids Legal Network). Contributions by these firms range from accepting individual case referrals, to "adopting" a health clinic and staffing a weekly legal clinic there, to establishing a "loaned associate" program, to conducting research on ethics and confidentiality issues arising in the MLP model, to engaging in systemic advocacy in partnership with clinicians.
