Legal Assistance

Medical-Legal Partnership | BostonSM believes that by siting legal staff in the clinical setting on behalf of low-income patients, those patients are more likely to access these critical services, and will be able to do so at a juncture when legal (and health) emergencies can still be avoided.

Our team of lawyers and paralegals -- supported by a network of pro bono partners and legal services collaborators -- provide legal assistance to eligible patients on issues connected to the satisfaction of basic needs.  We identify these needs through the acronym I-HELPSM, as detailed below:

  • I (Income Supports)
  • H (Housing and Utilities)
  • E (Education)
  • L (Legal Status)
  • P (Personal and Family Stability and Safety)
Within each practice area, MLP | Boston has developed a uniquely preventive set of legal priorities.
